| Project Title: | RockTEACH Program |
| Project Description: |
The goal of the RockTEACH Program is to assist in the diversification of the teaching workforce in the Western Pennsylvania area. By partnering with Teaching Magnet students throughout the school year, providing opportunities for them to visit the campus of Slippery Rock University, providing a week-long summer camp centered on teaching, and mentoring support if they choose to attend SRU, we hope to broaden the diverse pool of educators and meet the needs of an increasingly diverse community. The RockTEACH program consists of Three Pillars: 1. RECRUITMENT TO TEACHING: (1) School-Year Partnership & Campus Visits (monthly lessons at Brashear High School & 2 campus visits per year); (2) Summer Institute (residential week-long institute to introduce to aspects of teaching) 2. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: (1) Scholarships; (2) Financial Assistance (associated with Education Program costs) 3. RETENTION IN COLLEGE: Mentorship and Support (academic advising and College of Education Students of Color group) |
