Project Title: The Macoskey Center - Springhouse Living Roof Revitalization Project
Project Description: For those of you who have visited the Macoskey Center in the past year may have noticed, our Springhouse roof that previously had a lush living roof has been strikingly bare. Over the years, the wooden beams supporting the live plants and growing media on the structure have rotted and need replaced with a durable hemlock and/or recycled plastic lumber. We will also need some new sedum (live plant material) installed to re-inoculate the living roof. Therefore, the Macoskey Center’s Giving Day project, we are raising funds to support the reconstruction and re-planting of our Springhouse living roof. This is a $3,000 project that will involve replacing the beams, re-using the salvageable growing media and sedum (live plants), and purchasing as well as planting new sedum. This is a high-need project and will be great to utilize for educational programming, research, and as a model of sustainable architectural design!
