Happy Birthday, SRU Band! As the bands at Slippery Rock University celebrate their 100th year as an ensemble, we celebrated our expansion from 11 members to 200+ members with a once in a lifetime trip to Ireland in 2019. The Marching Pride is humbled by all of the recognition we have received for our accomplishments in Ireland! All of the hours of practice paid off when we won Best Adult Band and Best Overall Band in the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Festival Parade and Best International Band in the Limerick International Band Festival. The Dublin St. Patrick's Day Festival Parade spanned nearly two miles through the streets of Dublin and was viewed by over 500,000 people. The 49th Annual International Band Championship in Limerick consisted of more than 1,000 musicians in 20 bands. While we were across the pond, we got to see sites such as Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, and Blarney Castle. Those landmarks were memorable, however we will never forget moments such as playing tunes with other bands, thousands of cheering people lining the streets, and hearing the news that we were international champions. We were so fortunate to represent The Rock internationally. It was quite an unforgettable experience for all of the band members and staff! As the first 100 years of band at the Rock comes to a close, we would love your support as we move towards 100 more. This Giving Day, your donations will be used to help propel our most prestigious scholarship, the Blase S. and Mary L. Scarnati Scholarship to $100,000. Allowing this scholarship to provide even more critical funding for SRU Bands members. We need $10,000 in additional donations to reach our goal, and want to thank you in advance for your support! |
